The Tall Persons Club has chosen the town as this year's destination for its annual get-together.

Hundreds of lofty people from all over the country will congregate at The Holiday Inn from August 22 to August 25.

And bosses have hinted they could even be on a recruitment drive - with Telford MP David Wright and Shrewsbury town crier Martin Wood in their sights.

Director Sharran Alexander said: "We have heard that Telford has a tall MP and also that there is a very tall town crier, so it would be good to meet up with them while we are there.

"We will get out and about in the town and look to meet people while we are here. We are all very much looking forward to it."

Founded in 1991, the club is dedicated to providing information and promoting the interests of tall people. It has no minimum height requirement because "people know for themselves whether or not they are tall".

The conference is expected to bring in tens of thousands of pounds into the Telford economy.
