Soldier in court on murder charge
A soldier has denied the murder of a fellow servicemen at an Army barracks in Shropshire.
Lance Corporal Richard Farrell, 23, is accused of killing 32-year-old Corporal Geoffrey McNeill at Clive Barracks in Tern Hill, near Market Drayton, on March 8.
He was led into the dock at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court flanked by two security guards, yesterday.
Wearing a grey suit and blue shirt, he gave a quick smile to his family and stood to confirm his name.
He pleaded not guilty to one charge of murder.
The court was packed with family members of both Corporal McNeill and Lance Corporal Farrell.
Bail was denied and Farrell was remanded in custody to await trial, which Judge Paul Glenn said could last up to four weeks.
The trial will begin at Birmingham Crown Court on September 29.
