West Mercia Police are attempting to trace two men to speak to in connection with the attempted theft.

The incident took place between 3pm and 4pm on Friday, June 13, when an 87 year old man was followed by a man as he withdrew cash from the Halifax in Whitchurch High Street.

He was then approached in the car park on Castle Hill by the same man and a second man who asked him to read some paperwork. It is believed one of the men attempted to open his bag.

The pensioner was then followed as he drove to his home in Cheshire, and was approached again at his back door by the two men, who again asked him to read some paperwork.

The male in the Halifax was described as being white, of thin build, around 25 years old and wearing a pink top.

The second male was described as having dark olive skin, being of stocky build, about 5ft 7ins tall, in his 30s and dressed all in black.

They were believed to be driving a silver Mercedes.

Emma Crowther from Shrewsbury police who are investigating the incident said "The victim in this case was aware of his surroundings and was able to prevent his wallet from being taken, but we would like to take this opportunity to remind people to be vigilant.

"Try to avoid withdrawing large amounts of cash, and always make sure your cash is put away securely in a purse or wallet, in a place that you can see."
