Electrical retailer Currys will leave the Darwin Shopping Centre in August.

It is understood that staff will be moved to the company's out-of -town shop, which it shares with Phones for U, at Meole Brace Retail Park.

The retail park shop will be undergoing a refit.

A spokesman for M&C Saatchi PR, the London-based PR company which handles Currys, said: "The store will be closing in August.

"This is part of our on-going portfolio review which has been under consideration for a while.

"A number of stores will be closing but refitting of the two-in-one stores will be undertaken. There will be no job losses as staff will be moving to the out-of-town store."

It is understood the shop will close on August 24.

Currys operates in the UK and Ireland and is owned by Dixons Retail.

It specialises in selling home electronics and household appliances, with 295 superstores and 73 high street stores.

The electrical retailer is not the first to quit the shopping centre.

JJB Sports moved out of the centre in 2012 and women's fashion chain Evans closed last weekend.
