Four from Llanidloes killed in three-vehicle crash

Four people have been killed and a baby girl seriously injured in a road crash involving a tanker, a car and a van on the Powys border.

Dyfed Powys Police said two men and two women died following the crash on the A44 between Llangurig and Ponterwyd at Eisteddfa Gurig, near Aberystwyth.

It is believed that those who died were from the Llanidloes area.

The baby girl, who suffered head injuries, was airlifted to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and remains in a serious condition.

Sian George, Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman, said the accident happened just before 3pm yesterday.

"We can now confirm that tragically two men and two women sustained fatal injuries in the collision, and a female infant has been taken to the University Hospital of Wales Cardiff in a serious condition.

"Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"The road reopened at about 3am today."
