I feel betrayed, says Telford car thefts accused
A 24-year-old Telford woman has told a jury she felt betrayed when she discovered her boyfriend was running a car-ringing operation.
Jennifer Ings said that she had trusted Jangheer Khan and did not know he was using the rented garage near her Donnington home to hide stolen cars.
Giving evidence in her defence at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday, Ings said she had no knowledge of 30-year-old Khan's criminal activities.
Ings, of Highway View, Arleston, Wellington, and formerly of St Matthews Road, Donnington, denies conspiring to steal cars between July, 2012 and September last year, and a charge of concealing stolen cars between February and September last year.
The jury heard Ings and Khan had been convicted of "clocking" cars in 2007 when she was working at a Telford garage.
She told the jury yesterday that she had admitted what she had done on that occasion, but this time she was not guilty.
"It ruined my life and there was so much turmoil. I have worked hard to rebuild my life and don't want to let it be ruined again," she said.
Ings said that she saw Khan three or four times a week and that he had access to the keys for the rented garage.
But Ings told the jury that if she had known Khan was using it for stolen cars or stolen car parts, she would have put a stop to it.
She told the jury she was not involved in the theft of any cars.
The jury has heard Jangheer Khan and three other men,had all pleaded guilty to being involved in the conspiracy and two other men had admitted conspiring to handle stolen car parts.
The trial continues.
