'I'll rip your faces off': Woman abuses 999 crew in Telford pub call-out
A woman threatened to "rip the faces off" an ambulance crew when they arrived at a Telford pub to treat a reveller injured during last night's nail-biting England game.
Paramedics were called to a semi-conscious woman at the town's Duke of York pub.
A woman, in her 20s, had been hurt in a fall "when the second Uruguay goal went in", according to the ambulance service.
But on arrival at the pub in Market Street, Oakengates, the medics were challenged by another female reveller.
Rob Marsh, ambulance service assistant area manager, said: "Their way was blocked by another woman who refused to move and threatened to 'rip their faces off'.
"Whilst we understand people were upset at the result and had apparently had a drink, there is absolutely no excuse for behaviour of this sort.
"The crew were there to help a woman in need of medical assistance. To be verbally abused in this way is absolutely abhorrent.
"I am sure no-one in the pub would condone such actions and I would appeal to those who were there to help identify the woman so that the police can take action against her."
The drama happened at around 9.30pm.
It is believed the first woman, who is thought to be in her 20s, fell when Luis Suarez scored his second goal of the game in the second half. The crew pressed their emergency buttons and police and a paramedic were sent but officers were unable to find the abusive woman when they arrived.
West Midland Ambulance Service said there was a "notable" drop in demand during the game.
The service also dealt with a call-out in Birmingham in which a football fan fell 8ft from a car park and landed on his head. They said he had "a miraculous escape".
