£3,000 stolen from woman, 91, in Newport distraction burglary
A 91-year-old woman had more than £3,000 stolen from her handbag in a distraction burglary in Newport.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the burglary at the pensioner's home in Hampton Close at around 11.30am on Wednesday.
The victim was returning home when a woman followed her into the address asking for change.
The woman left a short while later but following the incident, the victim then realised over £3,000 had been stolen from her handbag.
The offender is described as a woman in her 30s or 40s and of "plump" build, with olive skin, black hair tied back. She spoke with a foreign accent and was wearing white clothing.
DC Terry Homer said: "This woman is believed to have been in the victim's house for quite some time. The police arrived soon after the incident and there was no sign of the offender nearby. Due to this, we believe that there was possibly a car waiting for the offender. I would be interested to hear from anyone who saw a woman matching the description or anyone who saw a car that looked out of place."
Anyone with information should call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident number 0215S of Wednesday 18 June.
