Woman, 25, thrown over hedge as car overturns on Shropshire border road
A 25-year-old woman was flown to hospital with serious injuries today after being thrown from her vehicle and over a 4ft hedge when her car overturned on a country road.
The single-car accident happened on the A4113 at Brampton Bryan, on the Welsh border between Leintwardine and Knighton.
The woman driver was found in a nearby field and, after being treated at the scene, was airlifted to hospital with a head injury, arm injuries and serious injuries to both her legs.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said a paramedic, an ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford, with a MERIT trauma doctor on board, all attended the scene.
They were joined by another paramedic from the neighbouring Welsh Ambulance Service.
She said: "Upon arrival crews found a 25-year-old woman lying in a field, behind a hedge, quite some distance away from a car which had sustained significant damage consistent with it rolling over.
"The woman, who was fully conscious and breathing, had sustained a head injury, multiple wounds and suspected fractures to both of her legs.
"The trauma doctor administered advanced pain relief to help make the woman more comfortable, while ambulance colleagues carefully immobilised her suspected fractures with splints.
"The woman was then airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, a major trauma centre, for further assessment and treatment.
"The woman was said to be in a stable condition upon arrival at hospital."
The road was closed for recovery work but re-opened to traffic at about 11am.
