Woman dies in car crash on old A5 near Shrewsbury
A woman died and a boy was seriously hurt in a car crash near Shrewsbury today.
The Citroen Picasso they were travelling in crashed on the B5061 at the village of Uckington on the old A5 at about 11.30am.
The woman in her 60s was pronounced dead at the scene and the 10-year-old boy was airlifted to Birmingham Children's Hospital with serious injuries.
The next of kin has been informed.
The road was closed while police investigated but reopened at 4.30pm and officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Police Constable Dan Yates said: "We are particularly interested to hear from the occupants of a small car, electric blue in colour, possibly a Peugeot 206."
He added: "We are also trying to locate the driver of a green three-door Suzuki Swift with either NAW or NAM in the registration.
"This is a distressing time and our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved."
