Teenager arrested over Newport sex assault claim

A 17-year-old boy was arrested after a woman told police she was sexually assaulted in an alleyway next to a high street bank.

The area around Barclays Bank in Newport High Street was cordoned off after police received a report from a "distressed" woman at about 2am. The teenager was held and questioned by police on Saturday.

He has now been released on police bail until July 23.

Inspector Andy Smith said: "We were dealing with a distressed female, and a male, aged 17, was arrested."

Witnesses should call police on 101 quoting incident reference 100-S-210614.
