Serial Telford shoplifter is back in court
A prolific shoplifter stole from a supermarket three times in a fortnight – just days after being let off by a court for similar offences.
Lorna Bird was handed a conditional discharge by magistrates for shoplifting at the start of May and told she would not be punished if she stayed clean for 12 months.
But within 12 days, CCTV caught her stealing a sandwich wrap, tub of ice cream and bottle of wine from the Co-op in Donnington, Telford.
Telford Magistrates Court heard brazen Bird returned to the same store nine days later, where she was again caught on camera taking packs of coffee, yoghurts and washing gel worth nearly £40.
Mrs Abigail Hall, prosecuting, said the 37-year-old returned for a third time on June 3, stealing another £43 worth of items.
The prosecutor said Bird was identified by police on CCTV.
Bird, of St Matthews Road, Donnington, admitted three counts of theft and breaching the conditional discharge when she appeared at court yesterday.
She was given a 12-month community order to include a 7pm to 7am curfew for the first two months.
