Hanging around Shropshire studio . . . all in the name of fitness

The latest fitness craze to arrive in Shropshire has people queueing up to hang, like bats, in specially designed hammocks.

Anti-gravity fitness is one of the main parts of a new studio, set up by Danni Evans and Laura Edwards. It follows 'AntiGravity Fitness' classes at Danni's Basecamp studio in Ellesmere.

The new Shrewsbury studio is based on the Battlefield Rural Enterprise Centre in Shrewsbury.

Laura said: "It is an aerial fitness studio primarily specialising in AntiGravity fitness, restorative yoga and in September we will introduce pole fitness.

"We are also running barreflow - a ballet/fitness fusion and soon kick start fat loss nutrition club will open here. We have had great success in Ellesmere and a passion to take the fitness/yoga fusion class to Shrewsbury."

Danni added: "AntiGravity allows the body to be suspended and held in the hammocks which are rated to 1000lbs. The body can be challenged with minimal impact and clients can build upperbody strength utilising the hammock and body weight."

She said there were many benefits.

"It can decompress tight joints, strengthen the core and relieve pressure," she said. "It helps low impact, cardio-vascular conditioning, and can create better body awareness while increasing overall agility."

Danni said the hammocks added an entirely new dimension to yoga practice.

"You can hold challenging yoga postures longer and in correct alignment and stretch further with less strain," she said.

The business partners say the anti gravity fitness also helps conquer fears and even releases 'happy hormones'.
