Next megastore opens its doors in Shrewsbury
Fashion retailer Next was today opening the doors of its latest megastore in Shrewsbury.
The opening of the shop in the unit formerly occupied by Comet on the town's Meole Brace Retail Park has created 50 jobs. The unit had stood empty since the electrical business went in to liquidation in November 2012.
The new Next will sell a wide range of home furnishings and also house Costa Coffee and a lingerie boutique.
It was also announced this week that the site of the former Carphone Warehouse and Blockbuster stores will be transformed in to an M&S Simply Food store - set to open in mid 2015.
The food store, which will cover 11,000 sq feet on the ground level, will also include a cafe and a 6,000 sq foot mezzanine level.
Steve Spray, managing director of LaSalles Investment Management, which manages the retail park, said: "There will be some re-configuring of the site to accommodate the new building.
"Work has started and it is envisaged that the store, which will sell only food and will also include a cafe, will open in mid-2015."
It has not yet be revealed how many jobs will be created by the development.
