People were left without water and part of a roundabout had to be sealed off in Telford today because of a burst water main.

Engineers were called out to Mossey Green Way in Ketley Bank after Severn Trent received nearly 50 calls from homeowners saying their water was off or had been reduced to a drip.

Severn Trent spokeswoman Sarah-Jayne O'Keefe said: "This morning we've discovered a burst water pipe at the Mossey Green Roundabout at the junction of Mossey Green Way and Old Park Way which may be causing water supplies to be off or at low pressure for some of our customers.

"Our teams are working around the clock to get this pipe fixed and everything back to normal as quickly as possible.

"We know how difficult it is to have no water, especially at the time of day when you're trying to get ready for work and school, and we're sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused.

"We'd like to reassure our customers that we're doing everything we can to get the water supplies back on as soon as we can.

"We're moving water around our network of pipes and we're also bringing water into the area."

Miss O'Kane said that she was hoping customers would have had their supply restored by this afternoon.

She added: "The burst pipe is in the middle of the roundabout, and unfortunately this has affected the road.

"However, we have been able to keep one lane open to allow traffic to continue to flow.

"We do need to close one lane to allow our teams to work safely and to keep road users safely away from the work area.

"We aim to have the pipe fixed and the road back to normal by tomorrow. Again we'd like to apologise for any disruption this may cause."

She said updates on the situation would be posted on Severn Trent's website - www.stwater.co.uk - or on the company's Twitter account @stwater.
