Most of the main building has been closed since mid-June as part of work to improve facilities at the centre, but it will be back open on Monday, August 4.

The reception, new and health suite, pool changing village, swimming pool and studio will all reopen, though the sports hall will remain closed for slightly longer, reopening on August 16.

The athletics track, tennis centre and gym will remain open as normal.

Some sessions planned for the first two weeks of the summer holidays will no longer be able to take place at Oakengates. For details of affected sessions and alternatives contact the centre direct on 01952 382810.

Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for leisure services and culture, said: "I would obviously like to apologise for the disruption and inconvenience caused by the closure over the past few weeks.

"However, the work that has been carried out is looking really good now and the centre will soon be back open again with facilities that are up to the standard of our new and recently refurbished leisure facilities elsewhere in the borough."

The Aspirations fitness suite was previously closed for its own refurbishment in November and reopened to users in January this year.

The work on the fitness suite cost around half a million pounds.

Work involved extending the gym across the majority of the first floor and building a folding partition between the current fitness suite and nrgize room.

A dedicated fitness testing and consultation room has also been built

The gym is now equipped with more than 65 pieces of cardio and resistance equipment from fitness equipment provider Cybex.
