A small electrical electrical fire has forced a Shrewsbury restaurant to shut for at least a week.

Ventilation ducts on the outside of The Third Place Indian Restaurant in Frankwell caught fire on Saturday morning.

Fire crews from Shrewsbury Fire Station were called just after 6.30am, when a passer-by noticed the fire.

Crews were able to put out the blaze within an hour.

The restaurant's manager, Saiful Chowdhury said today he was expecting to be closed for a week or even two while they repaired the damage.

"Everything was fine, no-one was hurt," said Mr Chowdhury. "The fire service came really quickly.

"It was an electrical short circuit. Someone saw it and called the fire service.

"Nothing has happened that will affect the restaurant too badly.

"There are concrete ceilings that stopped it spreading too much and most of the kitchen is stainless steel which stopped it spreading as well."

The restaurant has been a popular fixture in Frankwell since it opened nine years ago.

Mr Chowdhury was expecting to speak with his insurance company today.

He said: "We want to get open as soon as we can because we have already had so many customers calling.

"We're expecting it will be a week or maybe two for us to sort out, then we will be back open."
