The Aston in Church Aston, Newport, is a busy community pub and restaurant with a dining club of more than 1,000 members.

It has come a long way since 1866 when there was just a one-room inn on the site serving up ale for miners from the local limestone works.

Today, a modern day country inn and restaurant is on the site between Newport and Telford, drawing business from both Shropshire and wider areas of the West Midlands.

The property was reopened around nine years ago by BBC presenter Nick Snaith, who spent £100,000 revamping the pub, which used to be called The Last Inn.

Mr Snaith is a former pupil of Newport's Adams' Grammar School.

The Aston now features an 80-seat restaurant, with 22 more seats in the bar area, and a conservatory with French doors leading to the garden.

Accommodation for the owners and employees is on the first floor with three bedrooms, one of them en-suite, and a lounge, bathroom, office and staff room.

Paul Reilly, who is handling the sale through Christie and Co's Birmingham office, said: "The business is currently operated on a managed basis as our client has other business interests.

"The Aston is a quality, food-led operation with a dining club of over 1,000 members."

The freehold is on the market and anyone interested should contact Mr Reilly on (0121) 4561222.
