Craige McLean, 28, of High Street, Wellington, pleaded guilty to assaulting Jade Candler and causing her actual bodily harm on April 21.

He also admitted assaulting PCSO Paul Smeilus, who was called to intervene.

However, he denied spitting at him.

The assaults took place at Green Man Close.

At a pre-sentence hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday, McClean admitted the charges though he denied parts of Miss Candler's account.

He said he did not start the fight which led to the assault, as Miss Candler had hit him with her shoe, though he recognised his response was "disproportionate".

He denied striking her head on the ground. Robert Edwards, prosecuting, said the crown prosecution service accepted McClean's guilty plea.

Contact

The case was adjourned for sentencing on August 22.

McClean was granted bail on the condition that he live at his home address with a curfew from 6pm to 6am, avoid contact with witnesses and not enter Kingfisher Way, Telford.
