Police and ambulance crews found the body of the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, at Prees Railway Station at about 5.30am this morning.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said they were called to the station at Prees, near Whitchurch, with reports of a person being in collision with a train.
“An ambulance and a rapid response vehicle attended the scene," he said.
“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man, and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
A spokesman for West Mercia Police added: "We were called at about 5.40 this morning. A body had been found at or near to Prees Station, there appear to be no suspicious circumstances. He had been hit by a train."
Arriva Trains Wales said there was disruption to the Shrewsbury to Crewe service as a result.
