Shrewsbury boy has head shaved to say thank you to charity
A selfless seven-year-old who shares a rare genetic condition with his little sister had his head shaved to thank the charity that sent them to Disneyland.
Noah Brown and his two-year-old sister Faith, from Bayston Hill, Shrewsbury, have Beckwith Wiedemann syndrome, which puts them at high risk of developing childhood cancers.
Dr Andrew Cowley, consultant paediatric oncologist at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital keeps a close eye on Noah with regular scans, blood tests and check ups.
And despite being in and out of hospital, Noah smiles through all his health problems. As a result staff nominated him to have a wish granted by the Starlight Children's Foundation.
The charity grants wishes of a lifetime to seriously and terminally-ill children, and has so far helped more than 500,000 youngsters across the UK.
Starlight sent Noah, Faith and their 11-year-old brother Issac, who does not share their condition, to Disneyland Paris with their parents David and Claire Brown.
Mrs Brown, 41, has a neurological-auto immune illness and uses a wheelchair and her husband, a former retail manager, is now a full-time carer for his family.
Mr Brown, 40, said: "Noah has had so many investigations and tests, appointments and regular scans and struggles with many health issues, yet throughout it all he has been an absolute star. Last year the play therapists at our local hospital nominated him to have his wish granted. We were stunned and really thrilled that our little boy who has been through so much would have something nice happen for him."
He added: "We had an amazing time. Since returning he has talked non-stop about raising funds for Starlight to give other children the chance to have their wish granted, and decided to do a sponsored head shave."
Noah said goodbye to his blonde locks at Lads n Dads in Butcher Row, Shrewsbury.
"They were amazing," said Mr Brown. "Noah and his supporters completely took over the shop."
Noah also had a mufti day at Oak Meadow School in Bayston Hill where he has also been selling loom bands and keyrings he has made. The youngster has so far raised £880 on his Just Giving page and desperately wants to reach £1,000. To donate visit www.justgiving.com/Claire-Brown39/
