Dismay at Bridgnorth slime problem

Green slime has been spilling out on to a pavement for nearly a year.

The waste following in Alveley, near Bridgnorth, has been running down Greenway Avenue forcing pushchair users and walkers to move into the road to avoid it.

Fed-up residents have called on Shropshire Council to clear up the mess once and for all.

Nigel Rogers, who lives in Greenway Avenue, said: "Last year we started getting this waste travelling under our house and flooding onto the pavement.

"Tina Woodward, our local Shropshire Councillor, has been trying to sort the situation out since September but nothing's been done.

"There are springs all over the place in Alveley and two doors up from us there was that leaks underground and under our properties.

"The green slime runs over our drive and all over the pavement about six or seven feet wide.

"We see women with pushchairs having to avoid it and we keep being promised something will be done.

"Someone from the council came out and assessed it a few weeks ago and then another three people turned up to look at it.

"We were told the waste needed to be sent straight into the drains but we've not heard a jot since.

"We feel we've been very patient throughout the winter because we knew how many problems the council was faced with weather-wise.

"But nearly 12 months on it's really time they pulled their finger out because it's a hazard, which will only get worse again, especially if we have a bad winter and it becomes a sheet of ice."

Callum McLagan, spokesman for Shropshire Council, said it was hoped the mess would be cleaned up as soon as possible.

He said: "The highway technician for that area visited and on June 10 logged a request for a scoping visit.

"The request has since been received by our contractor, Ringway.

"It is currently being arranged with Ringway and we are keen to resolve this issue as soon as we can."
