Newport's town team is coordinating preparations for a Heritage Lottery Fund bid that will also include a history story wall.

National tourism and leisure expert Katie Foster and town team manager Mike Atherton will be hosting an open consultation event at 6.30pm on Wednesday (AUG 13) in the Susan Miles Room at Cosy Hall where members of the public are invited to hear about proposals and have their say on content, design and delivery of the project.

Mr Atherton said: "We have undertaken extensive consultation with Newport's leading representative and community groups over the past couple of months however we want to hear what the public think especially younger people and those with a long-term interest in Newport.

"So far we have unanimous support for our ideas but we want to give everyone a chance to get involved. An outline bid is taking shape and we would now like to explore how we can involve local people, organisations and Newport's schools in the detailed design work before moving on to implementation towards the end of the year."

Katie Foster said: "There is always good competition for HLF funding however we have the basis of a strong bid that will create a great opportunity to showcase Newport's rich heritage in ways that will help to build a stronger local visitor economy. We want local people to really get behind this bid and to show that they care about Newport's past, present and most importantly its future."

The consultation event is open to anyone with an interest and people are invited to go along and put their views across.
