Woman's handbag and shoes stolen in Telford robbery

A woman had her handbag, purse and even the shoes off her feet stolen after being assaulted by robbers in Telford.

Police said the 37-year-old woman was walking from the underpass towards Springhill Road from Chapel Street in Dawley when she was chased and attacked by three people.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "She was assaulted and sustained injuries to her face and arms.

"The offenders stole her handbag and purse containing cash, as well as the trainers she was wearing.

"The trainers were then discarded over the hedge in a neighbouring property before the offenders left on foot along Windsor Place."

The robbery happened between 4.30pm and 5pm on August 7 but police have only just released details of it in the hope witnesses will come forward with information.

Three people - a 23-year-old man and two women aged 45 and 20 - have been arrested in connection with the robbery and released on bail while further inquiries are carried out.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, particularly a passer-by who attempted to intervene.
