Councillor Arwel Jones, of Four Crosses, Llanymynech, who represents the electoral ward of Llandysilio and Carreghofa, will take on the role.

Councillor Alexander remains a county councillor. She resigned from the cabinet earlier this month after using the word during a cabinet meeting on health service provisions for people living in Powys.

She has since apologised and said she had made an "error in judgement".

A former agricultural financial manager, Councillor Jones is a Welsh speaker and has been a county councillor for 10 years.

He is currently the Chairman of Montgomeryshire Committee.
