Part of the new Millennium Village development in Ketley will now be known as Beddall Way – after John Beddall, who ran CB Builders based in Oakengates, JayGee Grocers in Oakengates, Telford Scaffolding, Wellington Glass and Wellington Windows.

The decision to name the road after Mr Beddall, who died in 1995, was made by Ketley Parish Council, after an appeal for local residents to come up with ideas for the names of the new roads.

Mr Beddall's daughter, Chris Price, suggested her father may be a good candidate for the new road, because of the work he did for the local area.

On Sunday, Mrs Price and her brother John Beddall took their 79-year-old mother Maureen to see the site of Beddall Way.

Mrs Price said: "Mum was so taken aback when we explained that the road had been named after dad and she beamed, saying he would have been so proud of this."

Mr Beddall was born in 1935. He went to the Ketley School on the A5 and as a child he took part in many local theatre productions. He joined the Navy at 15. After marrying Maureen in 1957, he left the Navy and drove for Paddock Haulage in Trench before starting a maintenance company.

He was Shropshire President of the Federation of Master Builders, then National President of the same. He was also a member of the local Masonic lodge.

Mrs Price said: "CB Builders, repaired and maintained the local schools for both Telford Council and Shropshire County Council, including Ketley School."
