Delight as De Grey's reopens in Ludlow
Famous tearoom De Grey's was opening for business once more today, six months after the internationally renowned tearoom was thought to have closed forever.
It marks a triumphant return for the 90-year-old Shropshire cafe, bakery and tearoom.
Dr Grey's was a much-mourned institution in Ludlow when it closed in January.
Taken over by Tasty Plc, the restaurant company first planned to simply put a Wildwood restaurant in the building, but due to the outpouring of love for De Grey's decided to keep running the tearooms, creating a deli and bakery as well.
Staff at the new-look Wildwood at De Grey's have been giving out free samples and holding trail-run dinner services over the last couple of days to get ready for the big opening. It is now open for business with the first night of restaurant service tonight.
James Warr, general manager, said: "There have been quite a few pleased that De Grey's is back and they're glad we haven't changed too much."
Doug Charlton, 70, who was regular at De Grey's,came for a look around, and booked a table for Saturday.
He said: "So many people, not just in Ludlow but abroad, know it. So it's great that it's back."
