Lorry arson attack on A41 in Shropshire

A lorry fire on the A41 in Shropshire today is thought to have been started deliberately.

Police today said they would launch an investigation into the blaze which happened between Cosford and Albrighton in the early hours of this morning. Fire services were called to the A41, just south of junction three of the M54, at about 1am.

Crews put out the fire in the back compartment of the vehicle's trailer, using hose reel jets and breathing apparatus.

A West Mercia Police spokeswoman said: "The road was closed and the fire extinguished. Highways cleared the debris.

"The fire service was called out and the cause of the fire was found to be deliberate."

She added: "We will be launching an investigation into this and if anyone has any information about this incident they are asked to contact West Mercia Police."

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service also encouraged people to contact officers, tweeting:

No one is believed to have been injured in the fire.
