Sherry Woolgrove, of Oswestry, is taking part in the Bupa Great Birmingham Run in October in aid of Cure Leukaemia.

It is the second year that Sherry, 49, who herself has leukaemia, has taken part and again will be tackling with 13-mile route through the city with cancer nurse, Sarah Moss.

Their embrace on the finish line of the half marathon last year has been chosen as a publicity photo for Cure Leukaemia's campaign to encourage runners to raise funds for the charity.

Sherry said it had been a shock to see her face on the publicity posters and an even bigger one to see it on giant electronic billboards above the M6 and M5, thanks to a tie-up between Cure Leukaemia and Elonex Outdoor Media.

"If the photo will help generate interest in the charity and encourage more people to run in aid of Cure Leukaemia then that can only be a good thing. And I get to be a poster girl, even at the age of almost 50."

Sherry, who trains with the Friday evening running group at Ellesmere, has to have regular treatment and is taking part in clinical trials in a specialist unit in Birmingham supported by Cure Leukaemia.
