A post mortem of the man, who is from the Leicestershire area, is expected to be opened and it is hoped he will be formally identified in the near future.
The man was diving at Aber Las, a disused quarry in the Nantyr area of Llangollen, when he got into difficulties.
His body was discovered by specialist rescue teams about 300m, or 1,000ft, along a flooded passage.
The alarm was raised at about 2pm on Saturday, but the man's body was not recovered until Sunday morning.
