Eight applications featuring up to 426 homes have been submitted for Ellesmere, Baschurch, Whitchurch, Hadnall, West Felton and Trefonen.

An outline application has been submitted to create about 130 homes on land south of The Hawthorns in Ellesmere, while a full planning application features 100 homes off Tarporley Road in Whitchurch.

Outline applications have been submitted to create 22 homes off Chapel Lane in Trefonen, near Oswestry, 30 homes and a medical centre off Milford Road in Baschurch, 57 homes south of Chester Road in Whitchurch, and 30 homes off Shrewsbury Road in Hadnall.

Outline applications have also been submitted to create about 32 homes on land between Twyford Lane and Holyhead Road and 25 homes at The Cross, both of which are in West Felton, near Oswestry.

Developers say the new homes will help Shropshire Council meet its shortfall in supplying land for new homes in the county.

But the applications have sparked concerns from residents and councillors in regards to the impacts they will have on the environment and infrastructure in the towns and villages.

The applications were being discussed by Shropshire Council's north planning committee at Shirehall in Shrewsbury from 2pm.
