Angler's day with former President Jimmy Carter
He was once the President of the United States – but Jimmy Carter will always have a soft spot for a beauty spot in our region.
President Carter took to a rowing boat to enjoy a little fishing at the Clywedog Reservoir.
The visit happened in 1995, but almost 20 years later it is still the talk of the Powys town of Llanidloes, which sits near the reservoir.
And President Carter himself extols the beauty and friendliness of the region in a new documentary being screened about the visit.
Renowned fisherman Moc Morgan also recalls how he met the President to fish with him.
Moc, who at 86 is still fishing regularly, said: "Over the years I've had the honour of meeting many characters, and at the same time I've managed to fish in more than 40 countries all over the world.
"There's one thing I'm certain of, I'll never tire of talking to interesting people."
"President Carter's fishing was fairly good, and he was fantastic company, but at the end of the day, there's no difference between fishing with a President or with a beggar; at the end of the day you're two fishermen.
"You can step on to a boat as strangers and three or four hours later you'll be parting as friends.
"You can't say that about any other sport."
President Carter and his wife were regular visitors to Wales and had been captivated by the beauty of the countryside and the friendliness of the people.
"We have never seen a more beautiful country than Wales," President Carter told Moc during his visits. "And never have we seen people more friendly or hospitable than the Welsh who have welcomed us here.
"That's why we like to come back."
The documentary, Gwlad Moc, will be shown on S4C on Monday, September 1, at 8.25pm, with English subtitles. The programme will also feature the Women's International Fly Fishing Competition that took place on Lake Trawsfynydd last May, and see Moc try out sea trout fishing at night on the River Towy.
