Man assaulted wife over date with new boyfriend
A man has been given a conditional discharge after shoving his wife to the ground and tearing up her driving licence when she went for a drink with her new boyfriend.
Lee Davies, 45, yesterday admitted assaulting Karen Davies by beating and causing criminal damage.
Welshpool magistrates yesterday gave Davies, now of Bryn Glas, Welshpool, a conditional discharge for 18 months for both offences. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs, a £15 victim surcharge, and to pay his wife £20 compensation to cover the cost of her getting a replacement driving licence.
The assault happened on the night of July 19 in Welshpool. The couple had separated but were still living together, magistrates heard.
On that evening Mrs Davies went out with her new partner and on her return was shouted at by Davies.
They argued over a phone while she tried to ring the police, before Davies shoved her to the ground outside the house as he threw her belongings out. As he threw the items out, he ripped an envelope in half which contained her driving licence.
Mr Matthew Ellis, prosecuting, said when Davies shoved Mrs Davies to the ground she suffered reddening to parts of her body.
Mr Phil Sherrard, for Davies, said his client had been married for 22 years and it was a sorry situation they found themselves in.
He added: "It was an out of character outburst and thankfully the injuries she suffered were extremely minor."
