Tractors explode in fire near Shrewsbury
Two tractors and a car were destroyed in a fire which caused a large explosion and sent flames shooting into the night sky.
Emergency services say the fire at Pontesford, near Pontesbury, on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, in the early hours of Sunday was of "doubtful origin".
Residents living close by raised the alarm after hearing several loud explosions and seeing a large fire just after 1.30am.
Police and three fire engines from Minsterley raced to the scene and found the tractors and car alight.
It took crews an hour to extinguish the fire.
A Shropshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "We had received a call to say a member of the public had heard several explosions and could see flames in the vicinity.
"Crews found two tractors and one saloon vehicle alight. The fire was of doubtful origin."
Crews used two breathing apparatus and two hosereel jets to tackle the fire.
