The burst left people across the town, as well as surrounding villages with no water from about 6am.

The burst was on the road between Westhope and Seifton to the east of the town, and affected as far as Wistanstow to the north.

Both Craven Arms school and Wistanstow school were shut this morning due to the lack of water supply.

A spokesman for Severn Trent said: "Our teams are out on site now and will work around the clock to get this pipe fixed and everything back to normal as quickly as possible.

"We know how difficult it is to have no water, especially at this time of day when you're trying to get ready for work and school, and we're sorry for the inconvenience this may be causing.

"We'd like to reassure our customers that we're doing everything we can to get the water supplies back on as soon as we can. We're moving water around our network of pipes and we're also bringing water into the area in tankers."
