A birthday cake was officially cut on Saturday afternoon to mark the occasion, followed by an afternoon disco.

Telford Ice Skating Club took to the ice to perform a magical ice dance showcase and later in the evening the Telford Tigers took on the Nottingham Lions.

A 1980s disco rounded off the celebrations.

James Craig, manager of Telford Ice Rink, said: "We opened in 1984 so it was fitting we had an '80s-themed disco session. Anyone who came in fancy dress got in for half price.

"We were really excited to be celebrating such a special milestone. It's a great venue for Telford and the surrounding areas, it's been a great weekend for us."

The ice rink shut for three months last year for a £4 million revamp to bring the facilities up to date.

Mr Craig added: "To celebrate our 30th birthday we ran a number of special offers and events over the weekend.

"On Saturday afternoon we marked the occasion with the cutting of our birthday cake followed by an afternoon disco session.

"Paul Shuttleworth pumped out the latest tunes as well as taking requests."
