Shrewsbury Crown Court was told Thomas Edward Jones had moved more than half of the waste that had come from the building of a Tesco in Welshpool.

After plans to re-use it for another Tesco at Cefn Mawr fell though the waste was taken to Jones's land at Knockin.

Earlier this year Jones, 69, of Hopton, Nesscliffe, admitted disposing of waste without an environmental licence. He was fined £24,000 and ordered to pay £45,000 costs and to dispose of the waste properly.

Judge Peter Barrie was told the waste should have been disposed of by October 6 but only between a half and two thirds had gone.

He gave Jones a further two months and adjourned the case until December 18.
