But although members of Lilleshall, Donnington and Muxton Parish Council offered no objection to the development in Donnington, they did express regret it would lead to the loss of a green space used by youngsters.

Housing association The Wrekin Housing Trust is behind the plans to knock down the flats, The Glebelands and The Common, and replace them with homes.

The application was discussed by the planning committee at a meeting at Turreff Hall in Donnington.

Clerk Ralph Morgan said: "The planning committee raised no objection to the application but was extremely concerned about a couple of things. Firstly, that there was no consideration seemingly given to the loss of green space. As a result, it was agreed to recommend that there should be consideration to scaling down the number of homes to preserve some green space.

"Secondly, concerns were raised about a possible loss of privacy for residents."

Councillor Clive Mason, ward member for Donnington on Telford & Wrekin Council and also a parish councillor, said: "

Overall it's a good thing. The flats are empty now, so it's good to see the housing trust is doing something about it. The one regret we had was that there is a small area of green in front of the flats that looks like being swallowed up.

"It's not a big patch of grass, probably less than the size of a football pitch, but it is well used by youngsters and it would be a shame to lose it."

A decision will be made by Telford & Wrekin Council's planning committee.
