Tributes pour in for man after Oswestry skatepark tragedy
Tributes have poured in for a man who died on his 20th birthday.
Matthew 'Grimaldi' Jones died just hours after he had celebrated his birthday at a Halloween event held at the Academy Skatepark in Oswestry.
Police today said the cause of death is unknown and but it is understood officers are treating it as suspicious and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The talented footballer, who played for Rhos Aelwyd FC, Johnstown Youth FC and was an apprentice plumber, was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but was pronounced dead in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The skate park, on Oswestry's Rednal Industrial Estate, had been holding the Halloween party on Friday night. It was closed all day on Saturday but reopened on Sunday.
A police investigation is under way and officers are appealing for information.
On social networking sites including Facebook, dozens of Mr Jones's friends paid tribute to Mr Jones, from Wrexham.
Katie Hughes, from Llangollen, said: "Never be forgotten. Everyone had a soft spot for Matty."
Nisha Buffey, from Rhosllanerchrugog, said: "Still can't get my head round it, absolutely gutted. Rest in peace Matty you'll be missed. Thoughts are with the friends and family."
Emily Prydden, from Rhos, added: "Today has been an emotional one and also a day Johnstown will never forget. It's had a massive shake which most of us will find hard to get over , I will miss that huge smile always laughing and joking at everything and anyone. Matty you will forever more be missed always keep that big smile bright up there."
Officers are appealing for witnesses who may have attended the event or have any information, to contact them.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Further to the death of the 20 year old man on November 1, we can confirm that he has been named as Matthew Jones who turned 20 that day.
"A post-mortem examination is due to take place in the next few days.
"Our inquires are still currently ongoing and we are appealing for witnesses to come forward."
