Man, 38, arrested over Shropshire birthday tragedy
A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a 20-year-old died on his birthday during a night out in Shropshire.
The 38-year-old man has also been questioned over the supply of class A drugs. Matthew "Grimaldi" Jones died in the early hours of Saturday after celebrating his birthday at a Halloween event held at the Academy Skatepark in Oswestry.
The suspect was today free on bail pending further investigation and police are appealing for anyone at the event to get in touch as they could have vital information.
The results of a post mortem by a home office pathologist are expected in the next few days but officers have confirmed they are treating the death as suspicious.
Mr Jones was a talented footballer, who played for Rhos Aelwyd FC, Johnstown Youth FC and was an apprentice plumber.
He was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but was pronounced dead.
The skatepark, on Oswestry's Rednal Industrial Estate, had been holding the Halloween party on Friday night. It was closed all day on Saturday but reopened on Sunday.
Chief Inspector Tom Harding said: "This is a tragic incident and as part of our investigation we are trying to piece together what happened and are keen for anyone who was at the event or has any information relating to this incident to get in touch."
Members of Mr Jones' youth football club held a minute's applause in his memory.
Tributes have also been paid by Richard Watkin, manager of the Holt Lodge Hotel in Wrexham, where Mr Jones worked.
