Councillor Angela McClements noticed that the plaque was missing and police are now investigating.

The postbox, in Arleston Lane, Wellington, Telford, was painted by Royal Mail in celebration of Mickey's T53 100m gold medal win at the London 2012 Games.

Councillor McClements said: "I was doing my regular walk round the ward yesterday and I always have a look at the postbox. It was then that I noticed the missing plaque.

"Mickey is a hero to everyone in Telford & Wrekin, especially in Arleston. It is the only gold postbox in the whole of Shropshire and I am disappointed and angry someone has seemingly vandalised it."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
