One of Shropshire's best-known hotels was today facing a fight for its future after its parent company entered administration.

Shifnal's Park House Hotel is one of a number that comes under the banner of Heritage Properties and Hotels, a company based in Devon.

Administrators from Reading-based corporate recovery firm BDO LLP have now been appointed at that group, leaving the hotels facing an uncertain future.

Staff at the hotel and wedding venue were unable to give an official comment when contacted by the Shropshire Star, but do insist that it is business as usual while the future of the establishment is thrashed out.

News of the financial crisis will concern groups that have booked for Christmas functions as well as couples planning their weddings.

There are hopes that the hotel could be bought as a going concern.

Inquiries about its future are currently being directed towards another group, Assured Hotels which is based in Knutsford in Cheshire, which was also unavailable for comment.

Other hotels in the Heritage group include the Churston Court Hotel in Brixham, Devon, Newbury Manor Hotel and The Crab Hotel, both of which are in Newbury in Berkshire.

The Park House's website continues to operate as normal, and the site is also offering its brochure for the Christmas period. Originally two separate 17th century country houses on the edge of town, the hotel boasts of being "an ideal base for exploring the myriad of sights in and around Shropshire".

Last month, another well-known hotel and wedding venue in the region was plunged into crisis, after the parent company of the Mill At Alveley was plunged into administration.

That hotel closed suddenly, leaving staff locked out and couples facing losing deposits.
