Deputy District Judge Jim Tindal told Stephan Covey it was "a matter of concern that you reacted so extremely to what was on the face of it a straightforward situation".

Covey, 20, of Stokesay Road, Wellington, pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates Court to one charge of harassment.

Mr Roger Bleazard, prosecuting, said that Covey sent the text after he had been kept waiting for three hours when his then girlfriend had promised to see him.

Mr Danny Smith, for Covey, said it was his client's first relationship and that he had become frustrated.

The court heard that the couple had subsequently broken up.

Covey was given a 12-month community order and a two-year restraining order to not to contact the victim for two years.

He was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
