Workman died in saw accident
A workman was killed in his workshop after a plank of wood was thrown back off a circular saw and hit him in the neck, an inquest heard.
Michael Andrew Combrinck was found dead on the floor of his workshop at Manafon, near Welshpool, on July 21 with a catastrophic injury to his neck.
There was a piece of wood stuck in his neck and another small piece in his lung and his trachea and a main artery had been severed.
The 58 year old South African patternmaker, who lived in Llanbrynmair, had been cutting the wood to make floorboards for a house he was renovating, the inquest in Brecon was told.
Powys coroner Andrew Barkley said pathologist Dr Katherine Harrison had concluded that Mr Combrinck had died as a result of catastrophic blood loss, due to a neck injury.
Mr Barkley said: "The machine was not fitted with the two safety measures that would have prevented this tragedy happening.
"This case highlights the inherent dangers to those working with circular saws, especially when working alone and without the safety measures.
"There was nothing wrong with the machine, it appears to have been an error on the behalf of Mr Combrinck."
He recorded a conclusion of accidental death due to exsanguination as a result of a neck injury.
