Domestic teams will be at The Grange Primary School in Harlescott this weekend, giving the school, which has 250 pupils, a deep clean.

Pupils suffering from illness have been told to stay away from the school for 48 hours.

Headteacher Marie Sibley said: "Yesterday morning we had 30 children off with sickness and diarrhoea.

"We contacted public health first thing in the morning and were advised to have a deep clean of the school on the weekend. A thorough clean will be carried out each evening prior to that taking place.

"We have been advised that we should use bleach because of the risk to public health. I have no concerns about the general level of cleanliness within the school.

"We are dealing with this situation. It is an outbreak of sickness and diarrhoea but we are not the only school to be experiencing this. I know there are other reports within the area."

Frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs and work surfaces will be thoroughly clean prior to the deep clean taking place.

"The sickness is spread across the school, due to the nature of this illness being spread by contact," added Mrs Sibley.

Parents of children affected have been asked to keep their children off from school for 48 hours.
