Slade star Dave Hill to light up Oakengates

It's Christmas! And what better way to say it than with a band member who played on one of the most famous Christmas songs in the world.

Dave Hill, lead guitarist and backing singer for Slade will be ready to rock Oakengates in Telford this year as he turns the lights on for the town.

The Merry Xmas Everybody musician will be special guest at the event on December 5 – and organisers couldn't be more excited.

"We are going to rock and roll Oakengates into Christmas now," said chairman of Oakengates events, Ian Barton.

"It all came about because my friend did the sound and lighting for Oakengates festival this year, and Dave Hill is a big friend of his."

The light switch-on will kick off in the town from 9am, with Christmas traders on hand selling all sorts of gifts.

And with hog roasts and mulled wine on offer, the event is set to mark the start of the festive count down.

Mr Barton said: "We do hope that we will see the crowds flocking now Dave Hill has been confirmed.

"I saw a Slade show recently and they put on a good performance so I hope he's going to be a great guest."

Deputy Town Mayor, Stephen Reynolds said: "That is great news. If he has managed to wangle Dave Hill to be the guest then this could be fantastic for Oakengates."
