Welshpool Town Council said it plans to create two park and ride facilities to deal with the number of visitors to the Bob Jones Memorial Air Show next June.

Thousands more people than estimated attended this year's show which lead to some problems with the amount of time people had to wait to get in and out of the car parks.

But Robert Robinson, town clerk, told members of the town council at its meeting on Wednesday that he is meeting with experts to put the new system in place.

He said: "The air show is one of our most popular events so far and last year we had a bus from the town centre taking people to the airport.#

"We had planned for more people than we expected but ended up with far more than that as well.

"I am now in the planning stage of setting up two car parks at perhaps Coed y Dinas and the Smithfield and taking people in on buses form there.

"There would remain priority parking and parking for the disabled at the airport but other than that the road would be closed and people will have to use the buses.

"Those coming from the Oswestry and Shrewsbury directions can use the Smithfield and those from the Newtown direction Coed y Dinas."

Next year's show will feature a display by replica First World War planes as the feature attraction. Nine replica aircraft will take part in a choreographed display at the event on June 14.
