Crown could take possession of Shropshire hotel
A hotel that closed suddenly earlier this year could be handed over to the crown after fresh doubt was cast over its future.
The Mill Hotel at Alveley shut its doors unexpectedly in late September, leaving staff locked out and couples facing a battle over their deposits for weddings.
It came after a Wolverhampton business connected with the hotel, Elysian Care Ltd, fell into administration in the days beforehand.
But the Mill's own parent company – Elysian Hotels Ltd, which is part of the same group and was run from the same Wombourne premises as Elysian Care, by the same directors – has never formally been part of any insolvency process.
Now Companies House has issued a warning to Elysian Hotels – seen by the Shropshire Star – that it will be dissolved in three months' time under section 1000 of the Companies Act 2006, which affects companies which are not believed to be carrying on their operations.
Baker Tilly, the company which is handling the administration of the care company, which owns two homes in the West Midlands, confirmed that it was not in control of the hotel because its parent company is not in administration.
One unnamed chef told the Shropshire Star that staff had been effectively subsidising the future of the hotel with their wages.
