Prolific Telford burglar jailed for four raids on homes
A prolific Telford burglar said to have a "terrible" record has been jailed for five years after admitting a series of break-ins.
The court heard that years of heroin and crack cocaine addiction was behind 39-year-old Wayne Titley's convictions.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday Judge Peter Barrie said that Titley was back committing burglary within weeks or months of being released from several of his previous prison sentences.
He told Titley that he had to make efforts to address his chronic drugs problem.
Titley, of Haybridge Road, Hadley, was jailed for a total of five years after admitting four burglaries – including two at the homes of his near neighbours.
Mr Kevin Grego, prosecuting, said that Titley stole a TV after breaking a kitchen window at a house in Victoria Court, Hadley, on January 4.
A week later he was involved in another at an address in Hurleybrook Way, Leegomery, where clothes were stolen.
On the same night on February 11 the defendant broke into a house in Haybridge Road taking bank cards, handbags, licences and a laptop. At another house in the same road Titley was involved in an untidy search of the property before taking a PlayStation and games.
Mr Danny White, for Titley, said his client's criminal life was related to his addiction to heroin and crack cocaine.
Titley, and Carol Locke, of Crescent Road, Hadley and a 17-year-old youth, had denied a charge of conspiring to pervert the course of justice by Locke claiming she had committed the burglaries in a bid to prevent Titley facing trial. The prosecution offered no evidence.
Formal not guilty verdicts were recorded after the prosecution offered no evidence.
