Telford man banned from town
A man has been banned from Wellington town centre following persistent anti-social behaviour.
Timothy Slater, 46, of no fixed address but who is based in Telford, was issued with the order at Worcester Magistrates Court.
One trader, who asked not to be named, today said that Mr Slater had been a nuisance to people in the town for many years, and the ban had come as a huge relief to many shopkeepers.
The order was put in place due to his on-going anti social behaviour, which has caused residents and shopkeepers to be harassed, alarmed and distressed.
Town Councillor Miles Hosken, who used to run Miles Gentleman's Outfitters in Wellington, said: "It is about time that something was done to stop shopkeepers from been abused in Wellington. It has been an ongoing problem for years and I am happy that the police have done something about it.
"They have reacted in the past, but this is undoubtedly the business of the police to stop it happening in Wellington, and I hope they will continue to support the town council and residents in the future.
"And that also goes for the people who run business because they have been in harassed in the past."
Wellington Safer Neighbourhood Team worked together with the community ahead of the order being granted.
Police are asking people to report any sightings of Mr Slater in Wellington to them on 101. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
